01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Steps from the east exit of JR Oimachi Station, Awaya is an easy stop for fresh-ground coffee and a display case full of pastries. The house signature is Toarco Toraja coffee, brewed with a rich depth and a pleasing touch of bitterness that balances the sweetness of fresh cakes.
From Mont Blanc to the Bristol: Choosing a Cake Set
The cake sets are a primary draw. Options include the Bristol, featuring seasonal fruit and cream nestled between soft, springy cake layers; a Mont Blanc built on a tart base with astringent-skin chestnut; and classic strawberry shortcake. Drink choices are just as varied, spanning pot-served black tea accompanied by an hourglass timer and iced coffee brewed with low acidity and a bitter edge. Slices can sell out toward evening, so an earlier visit is sensible if you have your eye on a particular sweet.
Kissaten Lunches from Pasta to Curry
Beyond pastries, midday meals are well represented. Pasta dishes such as Showa-style Napolitan and an arrabbiata with eggplant and bacon are noted for their chewy noodles. The kitchen also turns out European-style beef curry, chicken pilaf, and hot dogs, suiting anything from a proper lunch to a quick bite between errands.
Practical Notes for Visiting
Seating is split across the 1st and 2nd floors, offering table seating away from the station bustle. The stairs leading up to the 2nd floor are somewhat steep, so take care going up and down. Payment is cash only, making it best to keep yen notes on hand before you stop by.
